"20,000 leagues under the sea" (1997; michael caine as captain nemo)

worse than the 1954 version, partly because of its liberal themes:
the protagonist, french professor arronax, in one of the opening scenes, opines that man should not be master of the earth.
in the next scene we see american racism against a handsome, polite black man; the american bystanders do nothing about it; it is the visiting frenchman, arronax, who does.
then one of the characters rails against whaling.
and so on.

"eye of the dolphin" '06 movie starring carly schroeder

the usual liberal themes: the protagonist, 14-year-old alyssa, is the product of out-of-wedlock sex; her father james, a marine biologist in the bahamas, is shacking up with his current girlfriend when he learns he has a daughter; james is a jerk who has things to learn from alyssa; the opinion is expressed a few times that dolphins are at least as smart as humans, and probably smarter; a character says, "follow your heart"; and capitalist developers are the bad guys. but because we've come to expect this, because the movie isn't strident, and because the scenery is nice, the themes are palatable and I recommend this disney-esque movie to kids. a sequel (with a different cast) is in the works.

Review: Do As I Say (Not As I Do) by Peter Schweizer

Hypocrisy. What do we think of when we hear that word? We all know the definition, but is there any particular person who comes to mind? Or perhaps a scripture, or saying?

As a people we generally view hypocrites as despicable, shady people. Not to be trusted, and generally, best ignored. It is probably one of the worst insults you could give a person, especially one of a respected reputation.

I am a bit new to the political world, so I was a bit surprised to discover that the insult runs rampant among political talk show hosts, candidates, and advocates alike. It appeared to me, that the higher up on the publicly political ladder you stood, the more likely you were to be called one, especially if you were a conservative.

There is an interesting book that covers this topic, called Do As I Say (Not As I Do) by Peter Schweizer. He discusses how the liberals practically use the insult to try and discredit their conservative rivals.

The books primary topic is to root out the hypocrisy among the liberal party, which is so often ignored by the media who seems more concerned with trivial faults on the conservative side. I think this excerpt aptly captures this phenomenon: “In June 2003 the Washington Mutual and Newsweek revealed that William J. Bennet, who had written a string of best-selling books promoting virtue…was a heavy gambler…[no one] bothered to investigate the real scandal here, namely how this private information was leaked to the press—especially in a town whose promotional slogan is “What happens here, stays here.”

The author does a good job citing his sources, leaving room for the reader to investigate the claims he so boldly states in the book.

I would not recommend this book lightly. If you would continue to view Al Franken, Hillary Clinton, and Michael Moore in a positive light, (If that’s even possible.) then I’d suggest you go read something less productive, like People Magazine.

"quantum of solace," liberal 2008 james bond movie

not only is this a poor-to-mediocre movie, but it also has liberal themes, so it suffers from a double whammy. not recommended.

liberal characters we don't mind

"sky high" is a 2005 superhero parody movie starring mary elizabeth winstead, kelly preston, and kurt russell.
danielle panabaker plays layla, the best friend/love interest of the protagonist. layla is so likeable and the movie is so likeable that you don't care that layla is a big liberal.

President 'has four years to save Earth'

US must take the lead to avert eco-disaster
Robin McKie in New York
The Observer, Sunday 18 January 2009

Barack Obama has only four years to save the world. That is the stark assessment of Nasa scientist and leading climate expert Jim Hansen who last week warned only urgent action by the new president could halt the devastating climate change that now threatens Earth. Crucially, that action will have to be taken within Obama's first administration, he added

Evangelicals make necessary change at the top

By Bryan Fischer

"Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth (Genesis 1:28)."

The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) does not speak for every evangelical or evangelical church (the Southern Baptist denomination, for example, is not a member of the NAE), but it certainly speaks for a great majority of them.

It has been around for 66 years, and represents 50 denominations and more than 45,000 churches. Its national convention in 1983 provided the occasion for Ronald Reagan to denounce the Soviet Union as an "evil empire."

The performance of its vice president for government affairs has been a source of deep concern among clear-thinking evangelicals in recent years because of his aggressive advocacy for global warming alarmism. He appeared to many in the press to be speaking for the evangelical movement in general, and did little to discourage such perceptions.

"tigerheart" 2008 fantasy novel by peter david

"tigerheart" 2008 fantasy novel by peter david

the liberal messages, few and palatable, hardly detract from this excellent mythic novel, a re-imagining of "peter pan" by the co-author of another re-imagining of peter pan, "peter and the starcatchers."

a couple examples of liberal messages:

on page 224, after the indian princess says that she as leader should lead the charge in battle, protagonist paul remarks to gwenny, "You know, I think if our leaders had that same philosophy, there'd be a lot fewer wars fought."

and on page 237:

"He wondered how the Piccas could have suffered at the hands of those whom they were now imploring for help. But then he considered all the 'acts of God' that fell upon people who then went right on praising that same God in the highest..."

not so bad, eh?

suitable for kids.

thus ends my review of the novel from a conservative point of view.

now I will digress for a moment and mention something a passage in the novel reminded me of -- the appropriate analogy that conservatives are adults and liberals are children.
liberals consider conservatives to be hate-filled, just as, on page 215, the peter pan character (here referred to simply as "The Boy") says, "That's what being an adult is all about. Hatred."

The Boy goes on, on page 216, to describe his (peter pan's) view of children (good) versus adults (bad), and it well describes the exactly-backward liberal view of the world:
"When you are a child, there is joy. There is laughter. And most of all, there is trust. Trust in your fellows. When you are an adult... then comes suspicion, hatred, and fear. If children ran the world, it would be a place of eternal bliss and cheer. Adults run the world; and there is war, and enmity, and destruction unending."

The Kingdom Keepers, 2005 young adult novel by Ridley Pearson

conservatives may read this without fear of liberal messages.
or very few anyway; the hero IS shown to have grown up with an intense dislike of second-hand smoke.
