we won't win the war on terror without Christians

To use a Lord of the Rings analogy, if the terrorists are orcs, the Christian soldiers are high elves.

Beowulf

rhetorical questions:

Would you say Beowulf is Republican or Democrat?

Would you say the John Malkovich character in Beowulf is Republican or Democrat?
--
screenwriters are clever, but they're usually liberal.

the screenwriters cleverly fixed a hole in the original story. but they did it in a liberal way, i.e. a way that made beowulf less heroic.
SPOILER BELOW
the hole is that the story of beowulf is two unrelated incidents decades apart (grendel and the dragon are these two bookends).
the way the screenwriters linked the two: in the backstory, hrothgar was seduced by the female demon and sired grendel. then the same happens to beowulf and he sires the dragon.

I like the batman movie with michael keaton because batman and the joker create each other, they create their own nemeses.

but the plot idea for beowulf is not as good. it's okay to make beowulf a bit more "human" but not at the expense of making him less heroic.

“skullduggery” 2007 YA novel by Hautman & Logue

In the tradition of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, protagonists Roni and Brian, a girl and boy in ninth grade, solve a mystery.

On page 46: Roni loved her scooter. She had named it Hillary after Hillary Clinton, who had a lot of spunk and just kept on going. A lot of people said Hillary Clinton was too pushy. Too pushy? Roni thought. How are you supposed to get anywhere in this world if you didn’t shove once in a while.

Yes, this novel is liberal. The bad guys are the developers who want to build despite possible disruption of wildlife and the fact that the land may have archeological artifacts.

I lost interest, but if you can get past the politics (which aren’t that blatant) you may take some enjoyment from this novel.
